The Roosevelt community is mourning the loss of a true legend, a mentor, and a heartbeat of our football program. Ahmad Aalaam, a man whose life was inextricably linked to the grit and glory of Rough Rider football, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be etched into the turf of our fields.
Ahmad’s journey began in the Roosevelt PAL program. After aging out, he ascended to the varsity level, where he became a feared two-year starting linebacker. Known for his relentless, hard-hitting style, Ahmad didn’t just play the game; he commanded the field. He lined up alongside icons like Dontay Barron, contributing to a golden era of Roosevelt athletics.
He was a vital piece of one of the most dominant eras in Long Island sports history. Ahmad was a proud member of the legendary 1999 and 2000 back-to-back Long Island Championship teams—a squad that established a football dynasty unlike any other. Playing alongside all-time greats such as Jarone Pettus, Randall James, and Dennis Robinson, Ahmad helped cement Roosevelt’s reputation as a powerhouse.
However, Ahmad’s impact extended far beyond his playing days. His heart belonged to the next generation. He returned to Roosevelt PAL as a coach, dedicating himself to teaching, mentoring, and guiding young athletes. His passion for the game also led him to coach with the Elmont Cardinals youth program, where he supported his own sons. Even when he wasn’t on the sidelines officially, Ahmad was a constant fixture at the fields, offering encouragement and wisdom to every kid with a dream.
To Ahmad, football was never just a game; it was family, community, and service.
This fall, the 2026 Roosevelt Rough Riders varsity, Long Island Force, and SIPU football programs will take the field with a renewed sense of purpose. We will play in his honor, ensuring his presence is felt in every tackle and every touchdown.
