The Hughesville, Pennsylvania, community is mourning the unexpected passing of Sophia Renee Shoemaker, 24, who died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Born March 8, 2002, in Williamsport, Sophia was the daughter of Randy Shoemaker Jr. and Jeri (Swank) Shoemaker. She was a graduate of Hughesville High School, Class of 2020, and attended LYCO CTC.

A flower release ceremony will be held in Sophia’s honor on Sunday, August 30, at 11:30 a.m. at Montour Preserve.
The gathering is open to anyone who loved, cherished, supported or shared a part of Sophia’s life. Organizers have welcomed everyone from lifelong friends to those who may have known her for only a short time but were touched by her presence.
Those attending are invited to bring any type of flower, including wildflowers, as Sophia was said to have loved them all.
The ceremony will provide an opportunity for family, friends and members of the community to come together, remember Sophia, celebrate the love she brought into their lives and release flowers in her memory.
