BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Three teenagers were killed in a devastating crash on the Belt Parkway Tuesday night, a tragedy that has left multiple families mourning and renewed concerns about dangerous driving among young motorists.
Authorities identified the victims as Huzayfah Algaheim, 18, Rehman Abdul, 16, and Konstantin Gerantidi, 17. The three teens died after a violent collision involving a Cadillac Escalade near 65th Street in Brooklyn late Tuesday evening.
According to police and sources familiar with the investigation, the crash occurred at approximately 11:35 p.m. when a black Cadillac Escalade carrying five young occupants was traveling along the Belt Parkway. Investigators said the SUV’s driver, Algaheim, reportedly braked before the vehicle was struck from behind.
The impact caused both vehicles to collide with a guardrail. Authorities said the Escalade then spun out of control and rolled over. During the crash, Algaheim and two passengers were ejected from the vehicle and suffered catastrophic injuries.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported the victims to area hospitals. Despite lifesaving efforts, Algaheim, Abdul, and Gerantidi later died from their injuries.
Two other male occupants of the SUV, ages 16 and 18, survived the crash and were transported to Maimonides Medical Center. Police said both were listed in stable condition.
As investigators worked to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision, information emerged regarding Algaheim’s driving history. Sources indicated that the 18-year-old driver had previously been cited for reckless driving and speeding on the Belt Parkway approximately seven months before the fatal crash. Authorities also noted that his license had reportedly been suspended last year in connection with speeding violations.
The revelations have added another layer of heartbreak and frustration for grieving family members.
Among those mourning is the family of Rehman Abdul, a 16-year-old remembered by relatives as a respectful and responsible teenager with a bright future ahead of him.
Speaking after the crash, family members expressed shock upon learning of the driver’s prior traffic violations. Relatives said they believed Rehman would not have knowingly entered a vehicle with someone they considered to be a dangerous driver.
According to family members, Abdul and his friends had spent the evening together and were returning home when the crash occurred. One relative recalled that Rehman had spoken to his mother shortly before the collision, telling her he expected to be home within minutes.
The sudden loss has been particularly devastating for Abdul’s family. Relatives described him as a beloved son, nephew, and friend whose death has created an immeasurable void within a large and close-knit family.
Friends and loved ones are also mourning Konstantin Gerantidi, 17, whose death has left classmates, relatives, and community members grieving the loss of another young life cut tragically short.
Meanwhile, tributes have continued to emerge for all three teenagers as friends share memories and messages of support across social media. Many have expressed disbelief that three young people could be lost in a single crash and have offered condolences to the families facing unimaginable grief.
The tragedy has renewed discussions about roadway safety, reckless driving, and the consequences of excessive speed, particularly among younger drivers. Community members and safety advocates have emphasized the importance of responsible driving and strict adherence to traffic laws in an effort to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Investigators continue to examine the crash, including the sequence of events that led to the rollover and the factors that may have contributed to the collision. Additional details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
For now, the focus remains on remembering the lives of Huzayfah Algaheim, Rehman Abdul, and Konstantin Gerantidi—three teenagers whose futures were cut short in a tragic crash that has left families, friends, and an entire community searching for answers.
As loved ones prepare to say their final farewells, they are choosing to honor the memories of the young men they lost, remembering not the circumstances of their deaths but the lives they lived, the friendships they shared, and the impact they made on those around them.
The thoughts and condolences of the community remain with all of the families affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
