ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. — The Adirondack Central School District is mourning the heartbreaking loss of beloved football coach Darrell Gray and his daughter, Eleanor “Nora” Gray, who were killed in a tragic head-on collision involving a tractor-trailer on Thursday morning, August 27.
According to authorities, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 7 a.m. on Route 294 in Oneida County. Investigators said Darrell Gray, 52, was driving a 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan eastbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a single-cab tractor-trailer traveling in the opposite direction.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced both Darrell Gray and his 17-year-old daughter dead. The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
